Buttermilk prepared by mixing curd and water in equal parts is light and digestible quickly. It has a slight nuttiness and sourness. Increases Jatharagni. Drains phlegm. It prevents problems such as goblet, stomach, prostatitis, gum dysentery, urinary retention, loss of taste in the mouth, enlargement of the spleen, goiter, problems caused by drinking too much ghee, poisoning, dysentery.

It is very sour and creates heat. Increases frequency. Buttermilk mixed with nutty and sour flavors causes constipation. Only sour buttermilk expels faeces. Do not mix anything with buttermilk in the stomach, it drains the phlegm. But it causes phlegm in the throat.

Now let me tell you about the times when buttermilk should not be used. Buttermilk should not be used in cases of wounds, epilepsy, hallucinations and bilious diseases. In the same way, during the cold season, when the Jatharagni in the body is sluggish, in diseases born of phlegm, in throat problems, when Vata is provoked, buttermilk called Takramu should be used.

When Vata is irritated in the body, fermented buttermilk should be mixed with Saindhava salt. Sweet buttermilk mixed with sugar should be drunk when pitta is irritated. Similarly, when phlegm erupts in the body, one should drink buttermilk mixed with trikatukamu powder i.e. equal parts of shonti, pippal, pepper and salt.

The main cause of human diseases is the food we eat. As long as we eat food that is suitable for our body, we have no problem. Food intake should be very limited. Lately, I have noticed that most of the patients who are coming to me are suffering from eating disorders. Similarly in Ayurveda there is a main saying. "Trikala Bhojane Maharogi, Dvikala Bhojane Mahabhogi, Ekakala Bhojane Mahayogi" is implicitly said. So take food which is suitable for your body type and don't suffer from health problems.
